Chicago Democratic Mayor Rahm Emanuel hit back against President Donald Trump Wednesday and told the commander-in-chief to stop attacking him on immigration and to start looking for a good defense attorney.

“First of all, we’ll always be a welcoming city, because Chicago welcomed my grandfather, et cetera. But let me just say one thing, if I were Donald Trump, I’d spend my time figuring out which attorney I’m going to have,” Emanuel told Fox 32(RELATED: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Facing Backlash For Prioritizing Illegal Immigrants Over American Citizens)

The comments come after Trump criticized defiant sanctuary cities like Chicago at his latest rally in West Virginia on Wednesday.

Trump compared Chicago to a war zone and blamed Emanuel for the chaotic crime taking place in the city.

“If you want to stop this craziness of sanctuary cities, where criminals are protected — take a look at Chicago. How about the mayor of Chicago? It’s like a war zone,” he said. “It’s a great city. It’s like a war zone. This is what those policies do.”

Emanuel, who’s been quoted as saying “never let a serious crisis go to waste,” has already faced backlash from city residents for his preferential treatment of illegal immigrants. Some said they’re fed up with the city’s violence and are tired of the lack of progress, at a rally earlier in August.
