Beware Of Anyone Telling You Your Rights Come From Government

On the Monday edition of The Daily Daily Caller Podcast, we discuss the idea of negative rights and positive rights, and the important difference between the two ideas. Schools no longer teach civics or the American founding, except to complain about how the country was “founded on racism.” But the idea of where our rights come from was an important discussion then, and it’s becoming more important now.

Liberals want to make everything — health care, college, housing, food — a “right,” which is the opposite of the principles on which this country was founded. If the government can grant people rights, especially to the goods and services of others, there is nothing stopping that same government from taking away people’s rights. Our Founding Fathers were very careful in how they set up our government in order to protect the individual. The political left is working to turn that on its head.
