Former Secretary of State John Kerry said The New York Times’ op-ed written by an anonymous White House official “scares the hell” out of him, on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday.

Kerry expressed concern about the article before claiming there is still “reassurance.” (RELATED: Stephen Colbert Claims The Only Stupid Southerners Are The Ones Willing To Work For Trump)

“It scares the hell out of me,” Kerry said. “First of all, there is a reassurance. It means that for James Buchanan, he’s no longer the worst president.”

Kerry claimed the mood within the White House is ominous and said close advisers to the president don’t trust Trump’s judgement and have directly defied his orders.

“It’s really serious. It’s — it’s foreboding in so many different ways because it really means — I mean, you have somebody stealing something off the president’s desk in order to prevent him from making a decision,” Kerry continued. “You have him ordering generals to do something, and within a moment of them being ordered they turn to their fellow generals and say, ‘we’re not doing that.'”

“What it really means is we don’t have a president. We have a president who’s there, but he is not capable of doing the job or living up to the responsibilities,” Kerry concluded. “It’s really scary.”
