House Majority Whip Steve Scalise called out Democrats on Wednesday for not denouncing violence against members of the GOP after recent attacks from the left.

The response on “Fox & Friends” comes after the Louisiana Republican was asked about California Republican congressional candidate Rudy Peters, who was attacked and almost stabbed Sunday.

Scalise, who was shot by a reported Bernie Sanders supporter during a congressional baseball practice in 2017, denounced any violence due to political beliefs, saying Democrats need to take a stronger stance on the issue.

“They need to be denouncing that kind of activity,” Scalise said. “There’s no place for it. If somebody on the right was doing it, we’d be vocally denouncing it. They need to be denouncing it on the left. I get angry when I see that because there’s no place for that in American politics.” (RELATED: Scalise Warns: ‘Some On The Left’ Are ‘Inciting’ Violence)

“You should not incite violence or any kind of assaulting people based on their political views, and especially if it’s somebody that’s working in the administration and you’re attacking them because of what they do and what they believe in,” Scalise continued. “That’s not what American ideals are about.”
