Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing Judge Brett Kavanaugh of high-school-era sexual assault, has so far ignored repeated inquiries from the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Chuck Grassley told Hugh Hewitt Tuesday.
Grassley announced Monday that the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on the woman’s accusations, which surfaced Sunday after Blasey Ford granted an interview to The Washington Post. The senator noted to Hewitt, however, that he had reached out to Ford and her attorney “three or four times” in the last 36 hours but has yet to receive any communication.
“It kinda raises the question: Do they want to come to the public hearing or not?” he inquired.
Ford detailed to TheWP how she sent an anonymous letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein regarding the alleged encounter months earlier. Feinstein said she forwarded Ford’s letter to the FBI for review but never made the allegations public until stories began to surface around the letter itself after Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings ended.
Kavanaugh has categorically denied the allegation and the White House continues to back him.
“Judge Kavanaugh looks forward to a hearing where he can clear his name of this false allegation. He stands ready to testify tomorrow if the Senate is ready to hear him,” a white house spokesman said Monday evening.
President Donald Trump has also supported Kavanaugh after the matter, saying Monday, “He is somebody very special … I wish the Democrats could have done this a lot sooner, because they had this information for many months … But with all of that being said, we want to go through the process,” adding, “If it takes a little delay, it’ll take a little delay.”
