Maryland police responded to a workplace shooting in Aberdeen Thursday that has left multiple victims and sparked lockdowns for surrounding businesses.

Deputies received a report about the shooting at 9:09 a.m. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an active shooter situation occurred in the area of Spesutia Road and Perryman Road and that there were multiple victims. Local police, the FBI and paramedics have responded to the scene and reported that the situation was still developing.

Witnesses from nearby businesses reported that the shooting appears to have started in a Rite Aid distribution center.

“There’s a lot of police activity and ambulances and fire engines. They have the whole area blocked off. We’ve been able to get in and out. We have our business locked down since we’re so close. There’s not any way to get out of the area, so I can only imagine there’s still someone they’re searching for,” David Graf, employed at New German Performance, told WBALTV.

This story is still developing.

UPDATE: Law enforcement apprehended the shooting suspect, who is a woman, and have taken her to a hospital. The shooter killed at least three people and wounded two others, according to Fox5.

Law enforcement officials later held a press briefing around noon local time and confirmed there were “multiple wounded and multiple fatalities.” Officials also confirmed that a single suspect had been taken into custody and is currently hospitalized and in critical condition.

A single weapon was used in the shooting. Officials declined to confirm whether the suspect shot herself, but did clarify that law enforcement officers fired no shots at the suspect.

Law enforcement’s investigation into the shooting is currently in the preliminary stages.
