Despite political problems galore and dire predictions for the 2018 midterm elections, the Republican National Committee (RNC) just hit another fundraising record. As The Hill reports, the party brought in over $250 million in the last cycle and is financially well-situated to fight the fall campaign.

The RNC raised $16.4 million in August, bringing the total to $252 million raised. It has more money at its disposal for political campaigning than it did in 2016 when it successfully worked for the election of President Donald Trump.

“Enthusiasm for President Trump and his successful agenda is fueling our record-breaking fundraising and energizing our grassroots supporters,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told The Hill in a statement. “With less than 50 days until the midterm elections, we have built the largest ground game ever, and we are ready to defy history on Nov. 6.”

Republicans currently control both the House and Senate. They are expected to retain their majority in Senate but the Democrats see their reclaiming the House as a real possibility. They would need to take 23 seats from the GOP to do so.

The RNC has a decentralized election strategy with 540 staffers on the payroll in 28 states. The national party is prepared to use $250 million of its bankroll to fund Republican Congressional campaigns.
