The New York Times is holding a “nonpartisan” event with Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday that will encourage college students to turn out to vote for the 2018 midterm elections.

Sanders, who labels himself a “Democratic Socialist,” will speak with NYT national political correspondent Alexander Burns at the University of Maryland. Other colleges, including the University of South Carolina and Virginia Tech, will host live watch parties of the event across the country.

The event is held in conjunction with Rock The Vote, an organization that bills itself as “nonpartisan.”

According to an event description, Sanders will “discuss what’s at stake for students, in particular, and to amplify the critical importance of voting — regardless of which candidates you support.”

“In practice, Rock the Vote has a long history of favoring liberal and Democratic causes, including sending out mock draft notices from Donald Rumsfeld, then-President George W. Bush’s secretary of defense, to young voters in 2004 and denouncing the results of the 2016 election,” The Washington Free Beacon’s Alex Griswold reports.

The event, titled, “Turn Up The Turnout With Bernie Sanders” is the latest in the NYT’s “Get With The Times” series.

Past “Get With The Times” events have all featured left-leaning figures, including “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah and comedian Chelsea Handler.

The New York Times said they are “in conversations with others from differing political viewpoints” when asked by the Free Beacon if they had plans to host similar events with conservative politicians.
