A Gulf Air flight attendant died from a heart attack Tuesday while working a flight from Bahrain to Paris Charles de Gaulle.
Yasser Saleh was part of the cabin crew on flight GF19 that left Bahrain at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Yahoo News reported. While flying over Iraq one and a half hours into the flight, she suffered a heart attack, Yahoo reported. The flight made an emergency landing in Erbil, Iraq, but was too late. “The national carrier expresses its deepest condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones, and confirms that the flight resumed to Paris as scheduled,” stated the spokesperson for Gulf Air, according to Yahoo News.
“Gulf Air reassures that the safety of its passengers and crew comes at the top of its priorities, and thanks the affected flight’s passengers for their patience and understanding,” the statement continued.
The plane stayed on the ground for three hours before leaving again for Paris, and the same cabin crew members stayed on the plane.
If an inflight heart attack occurs, the plane is allowed to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport that has the right facilities and responders, according to Yahoo News. Most airlines have access to medical professionals via a satellite phone, and flight attendants receive medical training for emergencies.
