In 2007, the newly minted Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, promised that Congress would remain in session for full five-day work weeks, just like most Americans. Three years later, Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic Congress have all but forgotten the promise they made to hardworking taxpayers. The House adjourned this past Wednesday for the October recess after being in session for just two days this week. With the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts looming, the failure to pass a National Defense Authorization Act, and the ongoing absence of a budget for the next fiscal year -- taking more time off should be the last thing on the Democratic Leadership’s mind. Since when did campaigning for Congressional seats come before the peoples’ work? This is yet another example with how out-of-touch the Democrats are with reality. (more)

Today is a day that millions of Americans across the country have come to dread as they hand over much of their hard earned incomes to the federal government. However, this year, Tax Day is an even tougher pill to swallow. The Democratic Congress continues to tax and spend with a reckless disregard for our hard working middle class. The average American shells out more than 27 percent of their income in federal, state, and local taxes, which partially supports one-third of Americans who currently pay no federal taxes—yet reap government benefits. But instead of lightening the load for those already struggling to make ends meet, President Obama and his Democratic leaders in Congress just continue to rack up more debt and a bigger deficit while expecting taxpayers to foot the bill. The practice of quality medicine is defined by the personal relationship a patient builds with his or her doctor. Within the doctor-patient relationship, the two can confidentially decide how to treat, diagnose, and prescribe care – allowing the patients’ best interests to be number one priority. As a practicing physician for 31 years, I am privileged to have this inside knowledge. And as a physician Member of Congress I can say first hand that if Obamacare passes, quality health care will take a turn for the worse. I truly believe this bill will destroy medicine as we know it.
