Republican Congress off to a strong start

The new Republican Congress faces a massive task — fixing the gargantuan mess left behind by Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats. The Democratic Congress of 2007-2011 is a monument to irresponsibility and incompetence. It started with grand promises to “drain the swamp” and get the nation’s debt under control. It left behind a swamp more fetid and stinking than ever and a completely out-of-control budget deficit.

Fiscal conservatism is a necessity

States across the country are facing massive budget deficits brought on by years of the same kind of rampant spending we’ve seen from Washington. Unlike the federal government, state governments can no longer avoid solving the problem. Balanced budget requirements and an inability to take on debt year after year are forcing immediate action as bankruptcy, debt defaults and bond downgrades loom.

An open letter to RNC chair candidates

With Chairman Michael Steele’s announcement that he will run for a second term at the helm of the Republican National Committee, the contours of the race for the chairmanship became much more defined. With so many experienced and qualified candidates running, the RNC is sure to end up with a proven leader. As a political junkie, I look forward to observing a spirited race.

Our best days lie ahead

If current conditions hold through Tuesday, it is highly likely that Republicans will regain control of the House of Representatives, and quite possibly the Senate as well.  The Democrats will leave behind a fiscal mess of gargantuan proportions. Under current spending levels as projected by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, by 2050 our individual share of the national debt will be $279,000 per person. Now, stop to think about that for a moment: when children and students today get to be their parents’ age, they will owe $279,000 to the IRS for the national debt. And as if the national debt wasn’t bad enough, unemployment for young adults stubbornly hovers above 15%.

Young voters to Dems: it’s over!

“It’s not me, it’s you.” Those are normally the words that cement the failure of a relationship that has gone awry. Across the country, Democratic candidates are hearing this sentiment, and they can’t understand why. They can’t understand why they have fallen out of favor with the population in general, but more importantly, they haven’t realized that they have lost the allegiance of today’s college students.

The Party of ‘Yes’

11:20 AM 08/11/2010

As November approaches, the Democratic Party’s go-to talking point is calling the Republican Party the “Party of No”.  But on every major issue facing America over the short and long term, only the Republican Party has stepped forward with substantive solutions.

America is not too big to fail

The same fiscal hubris that pushed Greece’s economy past the breaking point has become Obama’s economic policy: spend without regard to future consequences.  Spend regardless of revenue.  Spend, and give no thought to the effect on the private sector.  Just spend.
