Ever since CNBC’s Rick Santelli inspired the Tea Party movement’s creation in early 2009, the left has been looking for a similar spark on their own side. The earliest liberal alternative, the so-called Coffee Party, was a flop. But former Vice President Al Gore insists such a movement still needs to be invented. (more)

On his Monday program, Keith Olbermann offered his Current TV platform to his network’s chairman, former Vice President Al Gore. According to Gore, both sides of the aisle finally hammering out a debt ceiling agreement is a signal that the American system of government is “in real trouble.” (more)

“Revenge is a dish best served cold” is an old French expression. Maybe American politicos ought to pay attention to the wisdom of our overseas friends. We’ve had almost 11 years to contemplate the 2000 election. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Bush v. Gore resolved that election some 43 days after Election Day. It was a wrenching experience for millions. Still, we can take pardonable pride in the fact that the mail went out every day, no tanks rumbled through our nation’s capital and we didn’t have any fistfights in Congress over the result. (more)

The global warming debate has always been a touchy one for both sides, and when the world’s top global warming activist is talking about the size of population and how that contributes to the choices societies make, it might be worth taking note. (more)

“Electricity prices in America are low,” stated Richard Caperton of the Center for American Progress. What he really means is that electricity prices are too low for our own good and need to be further taxed. (more)

Friday, April 22, is the 41st anniversary of Earth Day. The theme this year is “A Billion Acts of Green” and we’re asked, like recovering sinners, to reform our ways: take our baths with less water, turn off the lights, spend less time on the computer, watch less TV, reduce our toilet paper consumption, and make a donation. (more)

Now that this year’s federal budget has been worked out, biofuels policy will move its way back up the agenda in the 112th Congress. Late in 2010, biofuels policy briefly became a marquee topic when none other than Al Gore opined that “it is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for first-generation ethanol,” referring to a whole suite of subsidies and mandates for corn-based ethanol. History will note the first statute to mandate the use of ethanol as an additive to certain reformulated gasoline blends passed the U.S. Senate in 1994 by then-Vice President Gore’s tie-breaking vote. (more)

1. If we’re paying $15,000 per student and there are 20 kids per classroom, that generates $300,000 for the school per year. If they’re only paying the teacher $50,000 where is the other $250,000 going? (more)

If Speaker John Boehner’s House is the frontier of Congresses, with a band of cowboy congressional leaders trying to break in 87 new horses, who do you picture as the bucking stallions? Would it be new lawmakers representing the reddest of red districts, in states like Mississippi, Texas and Utah? How about freshmen representing districts deep in Democratic territory — that not only President Obama, but Sen. John Kerry won in his campaign for president in 2004? (more)

Pundits of every political persuasion love to lecture Americans about “how it really works in Washington,” probably to convey some sexy inside knowledge of backdoor deal-making that an ordinary, pea-brained citizen couldn’t possibly understand, or to casually explain away the absurd rules and regulations that politicians and bureaucrats inflict on U.S. citizens. Ever wonder how it really works? Not the big stuff, the aircraft carriers, bridges or entitlements, but the little rules and directives affecting your everyday life? (more)
