CHICAGO, May 28 (UPI) — Suburban Chicago police said they arrested a man who was allegedly selling cocaine from a Starbucks parking lot. (more)
It is very frustrating to see some people in the Tea Party movement not get the recognition they deserve; but if I can help one young man receive his rightful place in The Tea Party Hall of Fame it would be Mr. Matthew Perdie. Yes, I would recommend him for “The Teapot Award of Merit and Valor Extraordinaire with Oak Leaf Clusters” (and without kisses on both cheeks- that’s for the French to do.) (more)
I have a home in Utah, come from the city boasting the Reagan Presidential Library – Simi Valley, Calif. – and have an office near Nashville, Tenn., which serves as a second home. I love the people in these areas; they are the salt of the earth. Could be that I’m comfortable around conservatives and people of faith, or maybe it’s just the water I drink. But one thing I know; after armchair monitoring of political events for forty years, I can read political tea leaves. (more)
We are approaching the next big test for the Tea Party movement. And if the current rhetoric is anything to go by, there is going to be quite a bit of fireworks nationwide. May is the season for state conventions, where parties chose their leaders for the next two years. (more)
Following the vote and passage of universal health care in the U.S., an endless string of alleged “threats” began rapidly circulating the mainstream media with feverish fury, portraying the Tea Party and its attendees as nothing short of “racist,” “crazy” and “homophobic,” based off virtually zero evidence to back up their claims. As I prepare this week for the big Tax Day Tea Party Protest in Atlanta on April 15; dry-cleaning my colonial garb, blacking my boots, adjusting the turkey feather in the tricorn, folding my Gadsden flag, and polishing my teapot, I reflect on what Tea Party success in November may well mean for the movement. This protest, in conjunction with all the other attendant protests nationally, will certainly alert the national media and reluctant politicos to the certainty that we have not been diminished or lost any of our enthusiasm. In fact, just the opposite is true. And I look forward to giving my modified and updated version of Patrick Henry’s famous speech from March 23, 1775, to a larger group than last years record setter. It is truly a rabble-rousing speech I think, with significant connections historically. (I’ll provide my version of it next week after I return.) (more)
Decision time is approaching for the Tea Party movement. (more)
I really thought that the media and political class were starting to get it. The giggling from tea bag jokes started to subside and “mainstream” media coverage seemed less slanted. The maladjusted schoolboy bullies seemed to be maturing. It turns out that the only thing developing was the complexity of their anti-tea party propaganda campaign. (more)
Purveyors of fine tea and tea enthusiasts in general find themselves steeped in a linguistic shift, their beloved beverage now associated with a conservative political movement routinely praised or pilloried on talk radio and cable news shows. (more)
From the outset, the wildly popular Tea Party movement was ignored, marginalized, and ridiculed by the media and political elites that cheered President Obama into office. While today many in the media and political class tend to over-simplify the movement, most commentators—save for the propagandists on some outlets—have figured out that this is a very healthy, very mainstream civic reawakening. First lady Michelle Obama is taking on a tough but crucial challenge with her new national campaign, “Let’s Move,” to combat childhood obesity. Just looking at these frightening facts: Almost one in three children in this country is overweight. About 17 percent are dangerously obese. And a quarter of all kids from 5 to 10 already have high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels. What’s cause for concern isn’t only how much we know about the prevalence of childhood obesity but also how little we know about how to prevent it through healthy eating.
