As many have known for years and warned frequently, the Democratic Party strategy of race-baiting was merely a tactic to gain political power for their White leadership. Sound really cynical? Take a look at the new strategy. Old habits die hard, as the saying goes.  And so, too, do deeply-rooted, institutional policies reflective of a rotten core…like the Democratic Party’s harboring of bold racial animus and disdain while claiming the mantle of “diversity,” and at the same time, employing the most overtly divisive racial political strategies seen in this country during the past 60 years. (more)

A new wave of corruption scandals is building in Washington. Or, rather, we’re beginning to see the wave come ashore. This time, it’s Democrats washing up – Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters and a host of other representatives up on ethical and possible criminal charges.  Of course, corruption among government officials is as old as government itself.  As the clichéd fable goes, a scorpion will sting no matter what he promised the frog. (more)

Black Americans have rallied around the president as perhaps no constituency has ever supported an American politician. As of this week, fully 88 percent of black voters approved of Barack Obama. Many predicted Obama’s election would herald a new era of African-American leadership. And yet, curiously, something different has happened. In the last year and a half, Obama has failed to support, run away from or pressured to resign at least ten significant African American political figures – a count does not include his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. (more)

He’s baaaaaaack! Keith Olbermann returned from a two-week vacation on Monday. Meanwhile, MSNBC announced that his substitute host Lawrence O’Donnell’s own show, “The Last Word,” will debut Sept. 27 at 10 p.m. Olbermann’s little bird is flying from the nest to build his own! Now there will be two shoddily constructed, little-watched nests trying to avoid being eaten by Fox. This won’t end well. (more)

Three months to go before the midterm elections and the conservative airwaves abound with optimism.  If it’s “all about the economy, stupid,” that explains why the Democrats are circling the wagons.  Still, I’m not nearly as sanguine as the conservative talk-show hosts that a critical mass of American voters will connect the dots, and therefore make no predictions about the outcome.  I do predict, however, even as the campaign speeches become increasingly strident, that you won’t hear the following from America’s Liberal elites anytime soon: (more)

What are we to make of Congressman Charles Rangel now that even President Obama has thrown him “under the bus” (something Obama is expert at doing to anyone inconvenient, so look out Maxine), saying that Rangel should “end his career with dignity”? Perhaps we need to look back to whence Rangel came from, New York’s “Adam Clayton Powell, Junior” Congressional District. (more)

As we enter the summer’s home stretch and try to relax by the beach and read a book, the headlines over the weekend were relentless: we had Chelsea Cinton’s wedding, the apparent over-use of dispersants by BP in the Gulf, more Wikileaks fallout, Rangel’s 13 ethics violations and the Netherlands quitting the war in Afghanistan all interrupting our holiday. But under the radar screen, each political party has been carefully calibrating their fall strategy to keep or capture Congress. While specific tactics are not yet in place, Republicans and Democrats will spend the rest of August trial-ballooning campaign messages to see what sticks. In a year in which the status quo and politicians in general will be anathema to voters, it remains to be seen how receptive they will be to blatant political messages of any kind. Polling data confirms this, and suggests that voters will be extremely skeptical of what they consider to be typical “political” rhetoric. So let’s take a look at each party’s current message track. (more)

As if congressional Democrats didn’t face enough of an uphill battle this coming November the inquiry into ethical violations on the part of Congressman Charlie Rangel is sure to exacerbate their already tenuous grip on power. In an attempt to maintain control of the House and Senate congressional Democrats have had to contend with both voter discontent and now scrutiny into the actions of one of its most senior members. This combination may prove too much for the Democratic leadership to overcome. (more)
