On October 28th, just days before the November general elections, I wrote about four gubernatorial candidates to watch as unconventional politicians. Those included New Mexico’s Susana Martinez, Nevada’s Brian Sandoval, Oregon’s Chris Dudley and Wisconsin’s Scott Walker. Dudley, a terrific man, lost, but hopefully he will be back to fight again. The other three candidates won and are already showing results. I wrote about how Scott Walker “demonstrated how to balance a budget consistently without raising taxes.” He is showing that right now as governor of Wisconsin. (more)

For months, the conventional wisdom has been that Democrats’ best hope of holding the House rests on two things: the long time they’ve had to prepare for a wave election, unlike in 1994, and the money advantage they’ve accumulated due to fumbling at the Republican National Committee and House Republican fundraising arm. (more)

The American Action Network released a poll on the special election race to replace the deceased Rep. John Murtha. It showed that the Republican was in a virtual tie with the Democrat in a solidly Democratic district. That’s of interest to Republicans, but the real message is to Congressional Democrats: The change voters wanted is not the change you’ve delivered—and they are ready to change again. (more)

The United States is a center-right country. Under most circumstances, few would argue otherwise. If there was any time when this was in question, it was late 2008 when President Obama was elected and the left wing of the Democratic Party had the wind at their backs. The president himself seemed to believe the country had moved substantially to the left. And now his decision to bail out failed companies, try terrorists in civilian courts, and support a government takeover of health care is backfiring. This shouldn’t be a surprise. This is a center-right country. (more)

A new conservative political action group and think tank will launch next week with an event headlined by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell but also including Jared Bernstein, a top liberal economist within the Obama White House, as well as a representative from the AFL-CIO. (more)
