The Prayer at the Pump movement held a small prayer protest Thursday asking God to lower the price of gasoline, which has reached a national average of $3.58 per gallon. On his way to a $30,000-a-person fundraiser on Thursday, President Obama paused to deflect the blame for the sky-high gasoline prices that are the latest hallmark of his administration — and the latest assault on the middle class from Washington. Contrary to what Mr. Obama said, there is a way to cut gas prices rapidly; it’s just incompatible with his ideology. (more)

President Obama fought back against rising oil and retail gas prices in a speech in Florida on Thursday. But it was a curious speech. He started out by mocking Republicans, stating that GOP candidates are licking their chops as gasoline prices rocket up. He said, “They are already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. I’ll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill and step three is keep drilling.” (more)

There has been quite a bit of talk about whether the killing of Osama bin Laden will increase President Obama’s chances of winning the 2012 election. A New York Times/CBS News poll this week revealed that “57 percent said they now approved of the president’s job performance, up from 46 percent last month.” However, The New York Times also rightfully noted, “It is common for presidents to see their poll numbers shoot up after major military or foreign policy successes. But they usually do not sustain the ratings . . . Mr. Bush’s bump [after the capture of Saddam Hussein] evaporated within a month.” (more)
