The United States has long stood for democracy and freedom, but in Cuba, a dissident who opposes Fidel and Raul Castro’s communist regime tells The Daily Caller that he and his compatriots are feeling an icy breeze from the Obama administration. Democracy advocates say the lack of support can be attributed to the Obama administration’s strategy of “aggressive niceness” toward the communist country. (more)
On November 2nd, the American people’s voice was heard at the ballot box. Voters in Arizona, Oklahoma and Missouri overwhelmingly voted for ballot measures stopping the enforcement of the individual mandate — one of the key provisions in Obamacare. The mandate, which takes effect in 2014, will force Americans to buy government-approved health care insurance whether they want to or not. Somehow, the Obama administration thinks this new mandate will boost our ratings in the first ever review by the United Nations Human Rights Council. (more)

Much is made these days of the “tone-deafness” of the Obama administration regarding how Americans really feel about various issues. People have discovered that our once-charismatic president, a person who promised “Hope and Change,” has been able to deliver neither. They see a government that is increasingly unresponsive, and many are looking inward. It has become a time for us as Americans to re-examine our core values and beliefs. (more)
Embattled online classified service Craigslist apparently made a change to its website early Saturday, censoring its adult services section. (more)
If hyper-inflation applied to political philosophy, “human rights,” like Deutsch Marks in the early Weimar Republic, would be piled into wheelbarrows by the billions for a loaf of bread. The latest profligate printing of “human rights” currency is the Obama administration’s American self-assessment submitted to the UN Council on Human Rights. (more)

On Tuesday, August 3, Mayor Bloomberg held what could be a historic press conference to defend the plan to build a mosque just several hundred feet from Ground Zero. He began by recounting a tale of religious tolerance that took place in New York City in the 1650s before progressing to a more relevant issue: private property rights. (more)
On a humid September evening over 200 years ago, a tired Benjamin Franklin was asked “Well Doctor, what have we got, a Republic or a Monarchy?” Franklin responded in one of his characteristically laconic quips: “A Republic, if you can keep it.” (more)

The so-called DISCLOSE Act currently under consideration in the Senate is an affront to personal liberties protected under the First and Ninth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. This knee-jerk reaction to Citizens United v. FEC constitutes a clear and present danger not only to the expressly stated freedom of speech listed in the First Amendment, but to the reasonable expectation of privacy and freedom of association American citizens have held throughout this country’s proud history. (more)

Considering the entire length of civilization, America’s existence as a country — 234 years — is but a short time. In fact, more years passed between 1492, when Columbus discovered the New World, and 1773, when colonists began the series of events that would lead to independence. (more)

Pro-lifers have long understood the issue of media bias. Years ago, the late, pro-choice David Shaw wrote a series of articles in the Los Angeles Times showing how biased his own newspaper was when reporting on abortion. Shaw showed that bias came through not just on stories about abortion. Shaw showed how even stories that related to surgery on unborn children were skewed or spiked to avoid anything that might have a pro-life message. (more)
