In our Daily Caller column last week about immigration, we focused on policy and aggressively argued the case that America should import 100 million more immigrants of all types, including science PhDs and the working poor. Doing so would grow our economy, strengthen our position relative to China, and showcase America’s values. (more)

Last Friday, comedian Stephen Colbert testified at the behest of Democrat Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren as an expert witness before a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on immigration. What should have been a serious hearing on an important subject affecting millions of Americans predictably devolved into a stand-up comedy act from a fictitious character that Colbert portrays on his talk show. (more)

Harry Reid’s gambit to attach the DREAM Act as an amendment to this year’s Defense Authorization Bill failed miserably last week.  Republicans, who strongly oppose DREAM as a stand-alone measure — but might one day consider it as part of broader immigration reform legislation — weren’t biting.  Reid, however, never expected them to.  He wanted Republicans to vote DREAM down so that that he could continue to paint the GOP as “anti-immigrant” with Latino voters back in Nevada.  Reid’s been in a dead-heat with Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle for months, and may well lose his seat.  Latinos comprise 22% of the Nevada electorate, and voted 3-1 for Obama in 2008.  Reid desperately needs to get them to the polls. (more)

Tea Party activists who are debating whether to embrace “family values” issues in a year when the economy could make or break the Democrats and sweep their candidates to power are also divided over another hot-button issue — immigration. (more)

President Obama lets people break laws that he doesn’t like.  The latest example is his backdoor amnesty for thousands of illegal immigrants, as a still-fuzzy but insidious picture is emerging. (more)

The people who watch politics closely expected it, the ones who didn’t assumed it, and now we know it. Through an internal U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service memo, the Obama administration blatantly confirmed amnesty is their number one objective regarding illegal immigration.  Actually calling removal of persons who are not in the United States legally a “threat”, this is not only proof of a Capitol Hill rumor that was just in the past few month showing teeth, but another spit mark on the Constitution made by our current leader. (more)
