It was ominous news indeed for Democrats and the president when three Catholic hospitals in Pennsylvania, on the eve of the midterm elections, announced their imminent closing and implicated Obamacare. Then the two “pro-life” Democrats who represent the districts where the hospitals sit — both of whom supported Obamacare — were fired. Looking ahead to 2012, a growing number of Democrats must secretly want to stop Obamacare before it kills them in the next election cycle. (more)
On Tuesday night, Republicans took more House seats than in any year since 1938. As Republican Leader John Boehner stated, this is not a time to celebrate. Republicans are being entrusted with restoring job growth, limiting the size of government and balancing a federal budget that has grown out of control. (more)
Breast cancer patients from across the nation are up in arms over a proposed FDA decision that would literally rip the drug Avastin from their doctor’s hands. The life-extending drug has been credited, in part, with helping patients live longer. But the pleas from patients are not enough for the ideologues at Newsweek who are pressing for price rationing of drugs. (more)
Heritage Action for America, the Heritage Foundation’s grassroots advocacy spin-off, is urging congressional leaders to sign on to Iowa Rep. Steve King’s discharge petition, aimed at repealing Obamacare. (more)
The president has been known to enjoy an exquisite steak. Besides exemplifying a two-tier system where the wealthy will always remain at the top of the food chain, what does this have to do with ObamaCare? More than one might think! Along with other failings, it does not control costs or simplify a smorgasbord of providers, services, and redundancies. The legislation neglects to cure shortcomings in a health care system that is nonetheless the envy of the world, while exacerbating its deficiencies by adding layers of bureaucracy. (more)
The great frustration for many Americans during the debate on ObamaCare was tone-deaf politicians. No one seemed willing to listen to their concerns. Federal deficits, pork-barrel spending, and the cost of health care got lost in the push to pass partisan legislation. As we move into the regulatory phase of writing the critical implementation rules, the concern is that Obama-bureaucrats will also ignore the people. (more)
President Obama has finally passed his massive health care bill, although the staggering cost to the American people has yet to be determined; the attendant increase in taxes and misery, as well as a corresponding decline in quality and standards will most likely remain unquantifiable for many years to come. A whip-smart and dry humored former boss of mine employed a great line when referring to an individual who thought highly of themselves. “Oh yeah. He’s real smart.” (Beat) “Just ask him.” One can’t help but wonder if this quip might prove a fitting summation of President Obama’s bulldozing approach to the health care bill that passed Congress late Sunday night. To read press releases and advertisements unveiled by Planned Parenthood over the last few months, one would think that pro-life members of Congress want to strip all services for women out of healthcare reform. Planned Parenthood portrays these public servants as evil masterminds who are plotting to limit women’s access to insurance coverage and health care. They cry out that “women won’t stand for their benefits being taken away.” (more)
Last year the House of Representatives and the Senate passed different versions of health care “reform.” But both houses need to pass identical bills before a measure can become law. The easiest way to accomplish that would be for the House to simply pass the Senate bill as is. (more)
