As the self-appointed official “Pastor of the Tea Party Movement”- a title I claim by the “law of Imminent Grass-rootiness” (coined that one myself), not to mention “biblical primogeniture,” or, for that matter, by that almost divine American imprimatur: “first come, first served”- I approach my subject with great zealotry. And should you doubt my right to this title, I have the tricorn hat and frilly collar to prove it! And you don’t! So, don’t be surprised, according to the same laws, if I don’t just elevate myself to “Vicar of the Tea Party Movement” at some point. Might have to purchase a more elaborate hat though! (more)

Do Christians have civil rights? Earlier this week, citizens of Davenport, Iowa, were informed that City Administrator Craig Malin planned to change the name of Good Friday to “Spring Holiday” on official city documents, per the recommendation of the Davenport Civil Rights Commission. After the city and state grew appropriately outraged, the decision was reversed and Mayor Bill Gluba pled that the city move on to “more important issues.” But, this issue might in fact be the most important. The past five days were big ones for news that mattered. Our TVs were clogged with rumors about Howard Stern joining American Idol, Tiger’s apology, Olympic Hockey, and roughly 47 hours of Barack Obama speeches—all of which were essentially the same. In the midst of this was a story of jaw-dropping importance that I suspect most major news outlets were simply afraid to run. After all, it has the potential to shake the faith of millions of devout Christians and may just expose a cover-up that could bring the Catholic Church to its knees. I speak, of course, about the shocking revelation that Jesus Christ was gay. (more)
On page 16 of the textbook “Exceptional Students: Preparing Teachers for the 21st Century,” there is a single-sentence reference to Christianity. “Exceptional Students” is a book about teaching students with what the book calls “impairments,” which are described as “a loss or abnormality of a psychological, physiological, or anatomical structure or function.” They are what are referred to as special needs students: kids with autism, emotional and physical problems, mental retardation, etc. (more)
