The threat of homegrown terror is real, as the terrorist attack at Fort Hood, Texas vividly illustrated. Today the House Committee on Homeland Security, under the chairmanship of Congressman Peter King (R-NY), held a critically important hearing on “The Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Community’s Response.” Predictably, the liberal media is up in arms condemning the hearing and politically correct liberal groups have likened it to modern-day McCarthyism(more)

The fallout from the video conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe released Tuesday morning has been devastating for NPR. However, Juan Williams, a former NPR analyst who was fired unjustly even according to NPR President Vivian Schiller, finally had his turn to sound off about the video, which apparently showed an NPR senior executive, Ron Schiller, making some disparaging remarks about the Tea Party, the Jewish people and Williams himself. (more)

There are many lessons to be learned from the demonstrations in Madison, Wisconsin. First and foremost, workers in the public sector should never have been allowed to unionize. Once that happened, it was inevitable that civil servants would wind up being better paid and better pensioned than the folks in the private sector. That’s because they got to wind up negotiating with politicians who had nothing to lose by giving in to union demands. (more)

Political turmoil in the Mideast is par for the course, and political revolution tinged with religious overtones is a part of ancient Egyptian history. Back in the day, King Tut’s daddy, Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, changed his name to Akhenaten as the proponent of a then-revolutionary proto-monotheism focused on the sun (Aten). In a land with a plethora of gods and plenty of sun, but no Ray-Bans or SPF-anything, this endeavor was doomed to fail. And indeed, for his efforts, Akhenaten was banished from history for 3,000 years. (more)

The recent popular uprising and military coup in Egypt has caused the historic and involuntary departure of the country’s 30-year dictator, Hosni Mubarak. His removal from power, and the earlier departure of Tunisia’s dictator, Ben Ali, marks the beginning of a new, uncertain period throughout the region. Arab people are purportedly demonstrating for freedom and democracy. If not careful, tyranny and Islamic religious repression may be what they get, with war the inevitable outcome. President Obama urgently needs to devise new strategies to effectively mitigate dangers to peace and security emanating from these uprisings. (more)

On Thursday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak turned a crisis into a tragedy. His disastrous decision not to resign could very well lead to the end of Egypt as we know it. It will almost certainly lead to destruction. Mubarak is so tone deaf that he stoked the flames of the anti-Mubarak revolution. Now there is no way for this to end peacefully. The Egyptian crisis is now all but fated to end in tragedy. (more)

As Obama’s college classmate at Columbia, I was familiar with the teachings of our Marxist professors, Cloward and Piven. Following their strategy, Obama launched his original plan to distract America and overwhelm the system with Obamacare, cap and trade, the stimulus, extending unemployment benefits, card check, banning offshore oil drilling, suing Arizona for enforcing federal laws against illegal immigration, onerous new environmental and banking regulations, and even an attempt to make Puerto Rico the 51st state. We couldn’t keep up with all the socialist bills and proposals. That was precisely the point — create a crisis, overwhelm the system, and make our heads spin with multiple distractions. (more)
