At a rainy Occupy DC march in downtown Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, tempers flared between dreadlocked, leather jacket-wearing Occupiers and their older, more clean-cut union allies. (more)

A white progressive who organized Occupy Wall Street (OWS) excluded white allies from a critical meeting with New York’s Local 1199 union, which has since thrown its enormous resources behind the media-magnified protest. (more)

The Service Employees International Union has filed charges against Bruce S. Raynor, one of New York’s most prominent union leaders and the head of that union’s apparel workers’ affiliate, charging him with financial misconduct. (more)

Do you remember your last birthday? What was it that you wished for? Did you get it? I ask because this week marks Obamacare’s first birthday! Birthdays are generally a cause for joy and celebration — but this birthday is an exception. (more)

Although House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton, Michigan Republican, is about to launch a congressional investigation into Obamacare waiver selection, the administration continues to approve waivers from health-care law for labor unions and others. In fact, since Upton first requested documentation from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in late January, the administration has issued 307 more Obamacare waivers, 47 of which for labor unions. That brings the total number of waivers to 1,040. Labor unions received 269 of those. (more)

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the mediation agency charged with interpreting and maintaining the fairness of unionizing efforts nationwide, will soon decide whether or not labor unions will be allowed to break off different sections of workforces into small groups to organize five or 10 workers at a time instead of the whole workplace at once – or organize using “micro unions.” (more)

Like any fiscal conservative furious about runaway government spending, I have a wish list of programs (and some whole departments) that could be trimmed or eliminated. These usually are the classic government bloat, elected representatives’ pet programs, or simply areas where local governments or private enterprises could provide more efficient and better services. (more)

A week ago I attended and spoke at a private conference in California, which was hosted by two very successful and prominent businessmen. These businessmen and their wives have hosted this same conference in Palm Springs for the last eight years, and many of the invited attendees are also successful people. (more)

If President Barack Obama’s attempt to get the Senate to approve his re-nomination of former high-ranking AFL-CIO and SEIU lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is successful, it will likely allow unions around the country to forcibly open companies’ doors to labor organizers, and companies won’t be able to do anything to stop them. (more)

As I do at the end of each year (which usually elicits many e-mails, but I am going to do it again anyway), here is my look back at 2010. (more)

President Obama’s debt commission Friday received support from 11 of 18 members, falling short of the 14 votes needed for what would have been more of a symbolic passage than anything else. (more)

Job-based health care benefits could wind up on the chopping block if President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans get serious about cutting the deficit. (more)

During this past election cycle, labor unions invested over $200 million in support of Democrat candidates. Much of that money came from four of the country’s largest unions: the AFL-CIO and SEIU’s combined contribution was $88 million, AFSCME added $91 million and the National Education Association $40 million. This money was donated to Democrat candidates in hopes of helping them maintain a majority in the House. These hopes were crushed on November 2nd when the Republicans took back control of the House with a resounding win. This loss has effectively ended the unions’ dream of getting the Employee Free Choice Act (card check) enacted in the near future. (more)

This past election cycle, the American people marched to the polls with a clear-cut message for their officials in Washington — stop.  Stop the rise of massive government.  Stop developing policy behind closed doors, through backroom deals.  And stop this anti-American agenda.  The results were a “shellacking” for the party in power. (more)

Big Labor is desperately trying to save besieged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Over 150,000 union members and their affiliates are working for Reid’s reelection throughout Nevada, a massive coordinated effort between the AFL-CIO, the Service Employees Union (SEIU), and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), among others. (more)

TIGERVILLE, S.C. | One of the year’s most expensive election campaigns has been to save a Republican congressional seat — in a year when the GOP is expected to see huge gains in the House. (more)

Why in the world is the League of Conservation Voters joining with the far-left Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in a desperate attempt to re-elect one of George Soros’s favorite congressman? (more)

The Democrats will depend on labor unions — the shock troops of their political campaigns — to offset two new developments this election cycle: Tea Party enthusiasm and corporations’ ability to spend unlimited amounts thanks to a Supreme Court ruling. (more)

September 16th, 2010

Earlier this week, President Obama confirmed what small business leaders and concerned workers fear most: that he will spare no effort to achieve Big Labor’s goals.  The president admits that labor’s top priority, the job-killing, rights-stripping Employee ‘Forced’ Choice Act (EFCA), does not have the votes it needs to pass in the Senate.  And with his own words, the president acknowledged that he has unambiguously aligned himself with union bosses seeking to bypass Congress and cram their priorities down the throats of the American people. (more)

With Democrats fighting to hold onto their majorities in the House and Senate, they have enlisted their most ardent supporter — Big Labor — to help push back against a resurgent Republican Party. No interest group has been more vital to the Democratic Party’s recent success than organized labor, which spent nearly $400 million on Democratic candidates during the 2008 election cycle. (more)
