“Sharia” on The Daily Caller

On Thursday, October 20, Moammar Gadhafi was killed by Libyan rebels. However, they were only able to get their hands on him after an air strike involving U.S. predator drones. Once the colonel’s death was confirmed, President Obama said: “This marks the end of a long and painful chapter for the people of Libya who now have the opportunity to determine their own destiny in a new and democratic Libya.” (more)

During the long conflict between the Communist bloc countries and the Western democracies, there was a robust war of ideas. Those publicly sympathetic to the Communists included both dupes and deceivers. The former advanced the interests of the Communists without necessarily taking their side, through a combination of naïveté and political or academic fashion. The latter, on the other hand, deliberately purveyed what amounted to Soviet propaganda. (more)

About 100 protesters gathered outside the White House Thursday to call on President Barack Obama to denounce any and all attempts to implement Sharia law in the United States. The protesters had previously intended to counter a demonstration radical British Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary had scheduled, but since he canceled at the last minute, they shifted their attention to resisting pro-Sharia forces nationwide. (more)

On a 2009 summer day in London, where I was then a graduate student, I attended what was supposed to be a debate between Douglas Murray, the director of a British anti-Islamist think tank, and Anjem Choudary, a radical Muslim preacher who preposterously claims that Britain and America will one day soon be governed by Sharia law. (more)

The term “useful idiot” is believed to have been coined by Vladimir Lenin. It originally described liberal Communist sympathizers in Western nations who, as the Soviet leader explained, would “sell us (Soviet Russia) the rope with which we will hang them (the West).” (more)

Coverage of the recent parliamentary elections in Egypt has largely centered on the fact that the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) rigged the election. Many have assumed, amid the descriptions of ballot stuffing, exaggerated voter turnout records, and bullying, that the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated candidates who lost are the real force behind democracy in Egypt. The assumption is not only incorrect, but also dangerous, as the Brotherhood’s actual goals are directly opposed to democracy. The Muslim Brotherhood is the world’s most influential Islamist body, and it’s not about to let democracy get in the way of its commitment to Sharia law and the much-desired Islamic state. Yet, few Americans have ever heard of the organization or of Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Brotherhood’s de facto spiritual leader, though his teaching spreads the Brotherhood’s ideals to millions across the globe. (more)

The liberal love affair with Islam is perplexing.  While liberals tend to hate traditional Christianity for its more socially conservative worldview, they insist on vigorously defending Islam and its adherents.  From Jon Stewart’s moralizing, to Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg’s outrage at Bill O’Reilly, to President Obama’s recent droning about the “spirit of tolerance” in the Indonesian Constitution (in spite of Indonesia’s laws prohibiting speech offensive to Islam), we are forever sermonized that there is a gulf between Islamist extremism and the “vast majority” of normal Muslims, whom we would apparently love to have as neighbors and run into at Whole Foods. (more)

Watching the Sunday morning talk shows leads a viewer to conclude these TV hosts with their Beltway regulars are living in an alternate universe. While there can and should be an honest debate about whether or not a mosque should be built near the World Trade Center site, it is dishonest to label close to 70 percent of the American public as Islamophobes and bigots. All the hand-wringing, sighing and pained expressions! The incomprehension at how hundreds of millions of citizens could be so misinformed, so misguided! It must be the fault of fear mongers and opportunistic politicians! But not to worry, the valiant, extravagantly-paid journalist celebrities of the “establishment media” will expose the retrogrades, castigate the perpetrators of ignorance and educate the unwashed masses! (more)
