For a New Hampshire black bear, it started out as an ordinary home invasion. He strolled in through an open door, ate two pears and a bunch of grapes, and took a drink from the family fishbowl. And then he saw a sight that must have brought a chill to his furry spine. (more)
We now know the “racist” Shirley Sherrod Tapes were taken out of context. But without the Teaching Moment disclaimer, did they make her seem a bigot? (more)
We have heard from the White House this week that we are living in a “teachable moment” – on race, as far as they are concerned. However, this presidential term – and perhaps, even, the term before it – has been one collective “teachable moment” for our nation. (more)
The President reached Ms. Sherrod by telephone at about 12:35. They spoke for seven minutes. (more)
I have been watching all of the colorful (pun intended) sights and sounds from the past week, wondering when did I walk into the 1960s all of the sudden – or, worse still, some altered version of the 1960s where civil rights organizations get it wrong on race, wholesome Americans get represented by a world-class bigot, and black people turn a blind eye to the deteriorating racial conditions within America by proclaiming that “institutionalized racism is dead.” (more)
A textbook tactic of statist radicals in America is the systematic character assassination of their enemies as racists. Loathe to engage their intellectual opponents in a real discussion of the issues, lest the radicals should be perceived for what they are and lose the fight to bring America under their heel, they prefer instead to slander their opponents, to intimidate and shout them down, and to destroy their credibility with whatever lies or twisted propaganda they can muster in a never-ending witch-hunt. In its coverage of the Philadelphia voter intimidation case, conservative media has unfortunately chosen sensationalism over clarity. There are layers to this case to be explored that might highlight the idealism of the right and expose the pessimism of the left. Unfortunately, those layers of exploration are not as sexy as the continuous video loop depicting New Black Panther Party member King Samir Shabazz screaming about killing crackers. (more)
Last month, Louis Farrakhan, the “National Representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam,” sent a three-page letter to the leaders of 16 major Jewish organizations demanding reparations for alleged crimes Jews have perpetrated against African Americans. (more)
Latinos now view immigration as their leading concern along with the economy in what activists say is a major shift most likely driven by controversy over Arizona’s tough law against illegal immigrants. (more)
I hold sentiments of disagreement and disappointment over the NAACP’s recent decision to promote, vote on, and champion its opposition to the Tea Party Movement on the grounds that the populist, grassroots movement is – in the words of the NAACP - “…not just about higher taxes and limited government…” (more)
Although America has already shown a historic height of dissatisfaction regarding our current president, the most alarming rejection is recently coming from a very surprising sector of politics: members of his own party. In a recent White House meeting, the nation’s democrat governors grumbled against the recent legal attack on Arizona for its newest immigration enforcement law S.B. 1070. Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen said, “Universally the governors are saying, ‘We’ve got to talk about jobs,’ and all of a sudden we have immigration going on.” (more)
DES MOINES, Iowa — A billboard created by an Iowa tea party group that compares President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin is drawing sharp criticism – even from fellow tea party activists who have condemned it as offensive and a waste of money. (more)
The NAACP reportedly is about to take up a resolution to condemn the Tea Party movement for “explicitly racist behavior.” (more)
Just one month after three members of the New Black Panther Party were cleared of any wrongdoing in a 2008 voter intimidation case, the organization’s chairman announced that the New Black Panthers aren’t done harassing people for no apparent reason.
In a videotaped interview with Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher, NBPP Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz said, “[Beck] can bring his Tea Party, and we’ll bring our party, and we’ll see Glenn Beck.” (more)
For young adults, the prospects in the workplace, even for the college-educated, have rarely been so bleak. Apart from the 14 percent who are unemployed and seeking work, as Scott Nicholson is, 23 percent are not even seeking a job, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The total, 37 percent, is the highest in more than three decades and a rate reminiscent of the 1930s. (more)
Forget the G-20, the BP oil spill, the World Cup, forget even S.E. Cupp. (more)
New York (CNN) — Not everyone expects a response when they write a letter to the president of the United States. But Caroline Jamieson got much more than she expected when her husband ended up in jail and afraid he would be deported. (more)
The former Washington Post columnist William Raspberry wrote a piece in 1999 that was so honest and courageous about the origin of so much that is wrong with our society that I used to keep it folded up in my wallet, until it was too yellowed and dog-eared to read anymore. It was called, “The Parable of the Elephants.” It told the story of the Kruger National Game Preserve in South Africa, where the elephant population had outgrown the ability of the park to sustain the herd. A decision was made to move some of the young adolescent male elephants to Pilanesberg, a new game preserve. But within months, park staffers at Pilanesberg were alarmed to learn that 39 rare white rhinos were dead. Rangers at first suspected poachers in the deaths, but the rhinos’ prized horns had been left intact. Rangers set up hidden video cameras and tracking devices and eventually discovered that the young male elephants were going on “wilding” binges, chasing down the rhinos, stamping them to death, and otherwise wrecking havoc in the park. Scientists concluded it was a case of an “overdose of testosterone.” (more)
Whites are on the verge of becoming a minority among newborn children in the U.S., marking a demographic shift that is already reshaping the nation’s politics and economy. (more)
