Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole confirmed on Wednesday that the Obama administration was pulling back all training materials used for the law enforcement and national security communities, in order to eliminate all references to Islam that some Muslim groups have claimed are offensive. We are so unprepared to defeat Iran’s clerical rulers and their Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (IRGC) hand-maidens. Every time we think we’ve caught them red-handed, as with the latest terror plot in Washington, D.C., they invent a new way to wriggle out of it. (more)
As I watched Attorney General Eric Holder’s miserable performance at the joint press conference he called with FBI Director Robert Mueller and other DOJ officials on Tuesday to announce the Iranian assassination plot against the Saudi ambassador to the United States, it was hard to believe the case they were alleging. A new bill introduced by Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman and several other members of Congress would strip the citizenship of Americans deemed by the government to be involved in terrorism. (more)
The killing of Anwar al-Awlaki last week has sparked spirited discussions in the prestige press and on the Web. Awlaki was an American-born Muslim cleric who once headed a mosque in Falls Church, Virginia. But he traveled to Yemen, where he became a leader of al Qaida on the Arabian Peninsula. He urged fellow jihadists to take up arms and to engage in terror attacks on the United States, the country of his birth and citizenship. (more)
Ten years after 9/11 it’s a good time for our government to review its approach to the problem of terrorism — especially with respect to airline security. We should retain the policies that work well and discard policies that have proven to be wasteful or counterproductive. One program that falls into the latter category is the Federal Air Marshal Service. (more)
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama declared the killing of a fiery American-born cleric in Yemen a “major blow” to al-Qaida’s most dangerous affiliate, and vowed a vigorous U.S. campaign to prevent the terror network and its partners from finding a haven anywhere in the world. (more)
BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man with a degree in physics was charged Wednesday with plotting to blow up the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled airplanes filled with explosives. (more)
With the same confidence President Bush had in Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, Jamie Weinstein has asserted that the nation’s bloated defense budget is not fueling the deficit crisis. With similar confidence, Weinstein also seems to believe that Ron Paul’s foreign policy arguments are “fallacious.” (more)

On September 11, 2001, our homeland was brutally attacked by al Qaeda terrorists. As we remember and honor those who died in the attacks, we also send our greatest sympathy to the families of the victims. Despite these horrific attacks, our country is stronger and we continue to cling to the American dream. (more)
WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says authorities on alert for a Sept. 11 anniversary terror threat are more worried about “a lone actor” with a bomb than an extremely complicated plot like the airliner attacks on the twin towers and the Pentagon. (more)
WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials have received a credible but unconfirmed terror threat having to do with New York or Washington. (more)
One of the biggest temptations for America after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, was to turn inward behind rising barriers to trade and immigration. We mostly resisted on trade, not so much on immigration. (more)
A decade after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Americans have become accustomed to heightened security at airports, train stations and major public events. For the tens of thousands of employees at America’s 104 commercial nuclear energy plants, dramatic security enhancements have become a staple of the daily workplace. (more)
U.S. officials have reported that a drone strike in Pakistan killed al Qaeda senior leader Atiyah Abd al Rahman. The successful targeting of senior terrorist leaders has become a signature tool in the long war. Yet, as we have seen repeatedly since 2001, the decapitation of leadership in and of itself has not resulted in the dismantling and defeat of terrorist networks. Al Qaeda’s deadly presence in Iraq did not end when American forces targeted and killed al Qaeda in Iraq’s leader, Abu Musab al Zarqawi. A successful campaign targeting al Qaeda leaders in Yemen after 9/11 did not extinguish al Qaeda’s ability to regenerate in that state. (more)
CNN national security analyst and author Peter Bergen said instead of worrying about another terrorist attack, Americans are “preoccupied” with the Kardashians. (more)
Washington (CNN) – The U.S. government is not aware of any specific threat of a terrorist attack to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement Friday. (more)
