What are we to make of Congressman Charles Rangel now that even President Obama has thrown him “under the bus” (something Obama is expert at doing to anyone inconvenient, so look out Maxine), saying that Rangel should “end his career with dignity”? Perhaps we need to look back to whence Rangel came from, New York’s “Adam Clayton Powell, Junior” Congressional District. (more)

“In short, tax increases appear to have a very large, sustained and highly significant negative impact on output… the more intuitive way to express this result is that tax cuts have very large and persistent positive output effects.” (more)

Jobs are hard to come by. Our economic future is uncertain.  Faced with this situation, President Obama and the Democratic controlled Congress have a proposal for the American people: higher taxes and more government spending.  Unfortunately, the president and Democrats in Congress have been trying this method, and failing, for the last eighteen months.  And it now looks like they will only make matters worse by dramatically raising taxes on all taxpayers in January. (more)

Spanning the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware lies 107 square miles of streams and creeks that comprise the White Clay Creek watershed. The watershed is rich with plant and wildlife. When my son was growing up, the two of us would fish for trout in one of the many tributaries of White Clay Creek. (more)

The rallying cry of the Tea Party Movement has been fiscal responsibility and limited government.  It appeals across a broad spectrum of the electorate, but falls far short of addressing core issues of governance. (more)

This week the President’s Council of Economic Advisors released a report claiming that the 2009 Stimulus Act had created or “saved” 3 million jobs. They further stated that the Act would be responsible for 3.5 million jobs by the end of the year. Coincidentally, this is the exact number of jobs predicted by the Council when the bill was passed. (more)

In February of this year, President Obama announced his support for billions of dollars in loan guarantees for two new nuclear reactors in Georgia. This is the first nuclear power plant project to break ground in nearly three decades. (more)

A recent vote in the U.S. House of Representatives seemed straightforward enough: government computers must block viewing or downloading porn. (more)

It’s been a tough few weeks for Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida’s 8th District. First, Daniel Webster, former speaker of the Florida statehouse, entered the race as a potential opponent. Then the FEC ruled that mycongressmanisnuts.com, a site critical of Grayson, isn’t violating any rules. Now the Democrat is coming under fire for a financial connection to the Florida Tea Party. (more)

In the past year, there have been stark reminders of why our Armed Forces are engaged in foreign battles and why many have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. The Christmas Day bomber nearly killed hundreds in the sky over Detroit. Just a few weeks ago, a terrorist trained in Pakistan tried to detonate a car bomb in Times Square. (more)

Millions of Americans arrested for but not convicted of crimes will likely have their DNA forcibly extracted and added to a national database, according to a bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday. (more)

Terrorist plots on airplanes and in Times Square.  Iran developing nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles. A mysterious sinking of a South Korean naval vessel.  The Chinese extending their military might.  Pirates capturing ships of the Horn of Africa.  Without even considering the wars we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is clear that the world is not becoming a safer place. (more)

We stepped out of a military transport plane onto the grounds of what has become an almost mythical place, surrounded by more misinformation, incorrect assumptions, and rumor than fact. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is a place that few people get to visit, which contributes to the lack of knowledge and misunderstanding—perpetuated by the liberal left and many in the mainstream media. (more)

A few months ago, I met a gentleman at the National League of Cities conference in San Antonio named John McAlister. John is a fellow City Council member from Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. As we waited for a boat tour of the downtown San Antonio Riverwalk, John and I discussed politics in our hometowns, a common discussion at these conferences. Soon our discussion turned to national politics and the challenges facing our country. I learned of John’s steadfast commitment to the oath of office he took upon entering his role of City Councilman, that to uphold and defend the Constitution, an oath that City Councils, County Supervisors, state legislatures and Congressmen take all across this country. John strongly believes that we can regain limited federal government by holding local politicians accountable for their votes. I found his zeal refreshing and reassuring since I, too, am impassioned by such beliefs. (more)

Speaking in Dallas this week, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke gave a stern warning about the fiscal direction of our government: “Unless we as a nation demonstrate a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility, in the longer run we will have neither financial stability nor healthy economic growth.” (more)

Apple has started selling their new iPad, a small tablet computer that connects to the Internet. Some Apple fans have lined up three days before it goes on sale, camping out for the privilege of being one of the first to try the new technology. This is yet another device that seeks to replace printed books, magazines, and newspapers. We’re increasingly living in an electronic world, a world that will require increasing amounts of electricity to power it. (more)

I’m Bob Charles. I am a third generation Arizonan, a family man, a regular American and I am deeply concerned about the fate of my country and my state. Over the past year, I have watched as President Obama and Congressional Democrats have attempted to spend our country into bankruptcy and then some, indebting generations of financial responsibility on future Americans. Driving through most neighborhoods in Arizona, I see more “for sale” signs than cars in driveways. Local business offices are abandoned as casualties of “stimulus” plans aimed to bolster already bloated and poorly managed Big Business. We were promised that our tax dollars would halt the financial crisis and bring jobs back to our families. Yet, a year after the stimulus bill, nearly 10 percent of Arizona’s population is out of work. Our economy is in shambles and Washington’s answer is to tax us, and spend our money without restraint or accountability. (more)
