HOUSTON (AP) — A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that pitcher Brett Myers and the Houston Astros have reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year contract that guarantees him $5 million.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract was subject to a physical, which likely will be next week.

Myers’ deal includes a mutual option for 2011. He also can earn additional performance bonuses.

The deal was first reported Friday by KRIV-TV in Houston.
