Stock futures higher after China exports rise

NEW YORK (AP) — Stock futures are rising, pointing to a higher opening, following strong gains in overseas markets.

Stocks are getting a lift globally on Monday after a new report showed Chinese exports jumped by nearly 18 percent in December. The increase in exports has added confidence to investors who believe a global economic rebound is well under way.

Investors are set to buy into the market ahead of the start of earnings season. Alcoa kicks off the flood of reports that will provide further insight into how fast the economy is recovering.

Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 38, or 0.4 percent, at 10,604. Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures are up 4.40, or 0.4 percent, at 1,146.00, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are up 4.75, or 0.3 percent, at 1,894.75.
