SUFFERN, N.Y. (AP) — Former New York City TV newsman Dominic Carter has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for the attempted assault of his wife.
Carter — who was led away in handcuffs Thursday on the verge of tears — was also ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment and stay away from his wife for as many as two years.
Ramapo Town Justice Arnold Etelson recited a litany of domestic violence police calls involving the couple that went back 13 years.
Carter told his 21-year-old daughter as he left court: “It’s on you, Courtney, to be a big girl.”
Defense attorney Marvin Gotkin called the two-year order of protection “almost medieval.”
Carter’s wife, Marilyn, declined to comment.
