ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani officials say suspected U.S. missiles have killed at least 10 alleged militants in the country’s North Waziristan tribal region.

The attack is the eighth such missile strike in the region bordering Afghanistan in two weeks.

An army official and an intelligence official say the missiles struck Pasalkot area of the tribal region early Thursday. They landed at 7 a.m. in a sprawling compound that has been used as a religious school in the past.

The identities of the dead were not immediately known.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media on the record.

The U.S. has dramatically escalated its use of missile strikes in Pakistan since the start of the year.
