NEW YORK (AP) — An updated campaign finance report from Mayor Michael Bloomberg shows he spent more than $108 million on his campaign to win a third term.

The billionaire had already shattered his own spending records. His third-term bid was the most expensive self-financed political campaign in U.S. history.

Bloomberg has a fortune estimated by Forbes magazine at $17.5 billion. He did not take donations and was allowed to spend freely if he disclosed his expenses with the city’s Campaign Finance Board.

His Democratic opponent relied on public matching funds and donations. He spent less than one-tenth of Bloomberg’s total and came within 50,600 votes and 4.5 points of beating him.

Bloomberg will file final expenses with the state Board of Elections in July.
