OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — Southern Indiana officials say center Jeron Lewis has died after collapsing during a game at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Athletic Department spokesman Ray Simmons says the 21-year-old Lewis collapsed on the court with about 4 minutes left in Thursday night’s game in Owensboro. He died at a local hospital just before 10 p.m.

Details haven’t been released. A message left for the Daviess County coroner wasn’t returned early Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Lewis was in his second season with Southern Indiana, averaging 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Simmons says Lewis had a “great sense of humor and a soft touch with kids.” University President Linda Bennett says the school “is heartbroken.”

Lewis is survived by his infant son, fiance, mother and sister.
