WASHINGTON (AP) — More food and water is on the wait to earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
There should be 600,000 humanitarian daily rations — basic nutrition packages that provide 2,300 calories — at Haiti’s airport by Saturday evening. That’s according to Tim Callaghan, the Obama administration adviser who is helping to oversee relief efforts in Haiti.
The World Food Program has a plan to distribute the rations.
Callaghan says water purification units arrived Friday night and that officials hope they will produce up to 300,000 liters of water. More water is coming from the neighboring Dominican Republic.
Dennis McDonough of the National Security Council said 180 tons of relief supplies has landed in Haiti.
