How Toyota’s troubles play into your plans to buy, sell or lease

CLEVELAND, Ohio — If you thought you could use Toyota’s recent spate of bad publicity to your advantage negotiating at the dealership, think again.

Despite two huge safety recalls, multiple lawsuits and upcoming congressional hearings, experts say Toyota is not yet offering cut-rate deals on its cars.

“They’re actually selling their non-recalled cars for more profit,” said Jesse Toprak, automotive analyst for consumer research site TrueCar.com. “People are going in expecting deals, but that’s not the case at all.”
