Unless Tiger Woods has spent his time in a sex-addiction clinic planning to ditch his long-time caddie as well as his most troublesome obsession, Steve Williams will be among the first to know details of the biggest sporting comeback since Muhammad Ali climbed through the ropes for his Rumble in the Jungle.

And Williams has emphatically denied his boss was returning to competition at the WGC-Accenture World Matchplay Championship from February 17.

‘The stories stating Tiger will return at the matchplay have no truth to them,’ Williams told the Herald last night. Two more weeks before Woods returns? Three more? Six? The exact timing is not half as important as the question of how many majors will be played by the world No.1 this year.
