Not many people are as enthusiastic about college basketball as ESPN analyst Dick Vitale.
So one might expect that Vitale would enjoy something like what happened on Saturday, when the Orange Krush, Illinois’ student section, rushed the Assembly Hall court in celebration after the Illinois’ 78-73 victory over Michigan State.
Not exactly. Vitale, who was broadcasting the game for ESPN, said some critical comments on the air about the act and said in a telephone interview Monday that no school’s fans should rush the court because the injury risk is too high.
