Feb. 15 (Bloomberg) — Didier Defago of Switzerland won the Olympic men’s downhill ski race, while American Bode Miller rebounded from his 0-for-5 performance at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin with a bronze medal.
Defago had a winning time of 1 minute, 54.31 seconds at Whistler Creekside outside Vancouver, seven-hundredths of a second faster than Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway. Miller, the two-time World Cup overall champion who considered retirement last year, finished in 1:54.40.
Dario Cologna later won the men’s 15-kilometer cross- country race, giving Switzerland a Winter Games-best three gold medals. France, with two, is the only other country to win multiple Olympic titles so far.
The U.S. has seven total medals, followed by Germany with four. Switzerland, France, Canada, Norway and Italy have three.
