A top adviser to President Barack Obama’s administration is leaving to join the liberal Center for American Progress (CAP) as their chief operating officer.  The New Republic (TNR) gives some background on Neera Tanden:

Tanden, a longtime adviser to and confidante of Hillary Clinton, first joined the Obama team when he became the Democratic presidential nominee in the summer of 2008. After serving as Obama’s domestic policy director for the general election campaign, she became the senior adviser for health reform at the Department of Health and Human Services.

TNR notes that given the state of the pending health care legislation, especially with the news Friday that Obama may be planning to ram health care reform through with reconciliation, Tanden’s depature seems a bit suspicious. However, according to TNR the move has apparently been in the works for months now and she has also inked a deal to write on health care policy for The New Republic.

As of posting, CAP has not yet announced her hiring.
