Guru, a rapper and MC, suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma. He is set to undergo surgery today to try and repair some of the damage caused by his condition. Guru, born Keith Alam, had his condition confirmed by his close friend and collaborator DJ Premier. DJ Premier and Guru were partners in the group Gang Starr.
Guru, 43, became famous in the late 1980’s as an MC and for several hits with Gang Starr. Since 2003, the group had been on hiatus, but recently that looked like it would change, with Guru hinting on Twitter that new songs were in the works.
