White House reversal on the NYC terror trials
In an attempt to reach a political compromise on the KSM trial, the President is considering authorizing a change of venue from federal court to a military tribunal. The base of the Democratic party will be upset with this decision, however, the White House hopes this will lead to a compromise on closing Guantanamo Bay.
Republican Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell responded to the news Friday:
“The decision to bring the 9/11 plotters into our communities for a civilian trial was a horrible idea in the first place, and no one should be surprised by the growing public opposition. Our military commission system was created on a bipartisan basis for the specific purpose of trying foreign terrorists”
