Mississippi high school cancels prom after a lesbian couple wanted to attend

Constance McMillen, a student at Itawamba County Agricultural High School, requested to attend her high school prom  with her girlfriend. This request resulted in the school board canceling the entire prom, without specifically addressing the issue. The ACLU had given the school district time to allow the couple to attend the event, which prompted officials to cancel the prom for the whole school.

According to reports, it is well known that Constance McMillen was a lesbian and that she intended on taking a woman as her date. The school, in northern Mississippi, had also forbade McMillen from wearing a tuxedo, as she was planning on doing. It remains to be seen if the school district will reconsider the decision.
