Mickey Kaus not really trying to beat Barbara Boxer

Mickey Kaus, who declared recently that he plans to run for Barbara Boxer’s Senate seat, tells the New York Times that he doesn’t actually expect to beat Boxer. “I do not expect to win, and that is the difference between Franken and me. This is an issue-raising candidacy,” Kaus told Deborah Solomon.

While a Democrat, Kaus has a fierce conservative streak and “likes to fulminate against the party’s sacred cows, like labor unions, the welfare system and amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

Other interesting Kaus facts: Slate pays him roughly $80k a year to blog a few times a week, he’s unmarried, and his mom (Peg!) doesn’t like the idea of him moving to Washington.
