Organizing for America running out of gas

Organizing for America, the grassroots-harnessing brainchild of Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, is facing some seriously depleted pep reserves, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“On a cold evening earlier this month,” writes the Post-Gazette’s James O’Toole, “about 50 Democratic activists gathered in the Teamsters Temple in Lawrenceville for a briefing by OFA staff members and a strategy session on the 2010 elections.”

Afterward, participants complained about the lack of focus on important issues.

“There is a feeling that a lot of people are disillusioned, we have to work to keep the enthusiasm high,” Saleem Kahn, a professor at University of Pittsburgh Medical School, told the Post-Gazette.

Warts and all, Plouffe mobilized OFA last week to pass health care. “Each day until the vote, we’ll feature a powerful new way for OFA supporters to speak out in our communities and weigh in directly with Congress,” Plouffe wrote in an email to OFA members, according to WaPo’s Chris Cillizza.
