Kara’s dad plans New York Senate run: Joe DioGuardi, the former Republican congressman from New York who happens to be the father of a certain “American Idol” judge, is planning to run for New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat in the forthcoming election, entering what may soon become a crowded race. DioGuardi, a certified public accountant from Ossining, N.Y., who is known as a fiscal conservative, is slated to officially announce his run on Tuesday at New York’s Grand Central Station, the Associated Press reports.
