The “Fairness Doctrine” (what MSNBC host Ed Schultz calls for in the below video) is a brainchild of the far left. If implemented, it would force media owners to provide “equal time” to opposing political viewpoints.
The wonks at the Center for American Progress (and other places) who have authored most of the literature on the FD essentially hope to break the conservative stranglehold on talk radio. While horrifying, due to its total disregard for the First Amendment, the idea is also a political suicide bomb. And as media continues to fragment thanks to technology, it’ll be even less effective as a strategy for silencing radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Michael Savage.
