On Tuesday, eBay plans to unveil a new classifieds site, called eBayClassifieds, to replace its old site, Kijiji, in the United States. It will also introduce two new mobile apps, one for listing and selling items for sale and another for posting or searching classifieds. A third app, for the iPad, will be released April 3.

The new classifieds site is eBay’s attempt to re-energize its classifieds business during a time when it is under attack. Kijiji is successful in other countries, like Canada and Australia, and it will keep the Kijiji name abroad. In the United States, though, where Craigslist rules the classifieds business, it has never been able to dominate. In February, Kijiji had 2 million visitors while Craigslist had 4.5 million, according to Compete.
