U.S. and India Pledge Cooperation on Economic Issues

Kicking off a two-day trip intended to strengthen economic ties between India and the United States, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner met with top officials in New Delhi on Tuesday. The two sides pledged to cooperate to increase global economic stability, but no concrete goals, plans or business deals were unveiled.

Together, India and the United States will play a “key role” in shaping consensus on international financial reform, Mr. Geithner said. Officials from the two countries promised to meet regularly to discuss macro-economic issues, their financial industries and how to pay for infrastructure improvements in both countries.
