‘Sex and the City 2’ trailer: Love is on the rocks for Carrie when she runs into ex-fiance Aiden

Last time we saw Manhattan’s most famous foursome, they were basking in the glow of a happy ending.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) had finally married Mr. Big (Chris Noth) after a tumultuous romance and engagement.  Samantha (Kim Cattrall) had split with Smith Jared and moved back to New York to resume her famed single life, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) successfully got pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) mended her marriage with her husband, Steve.

Now, two years later (in imaginary Sex and the City land), they’re back.  The new trailer for the sequel, cleverly named “Sex and the City 2,” promises as much drama and style as ever.

While the ladies’ lives seem to be relatively in tact, Carrie laments that she and Mr. Big need to work on the “sparkle” in their marriage – which she realizes after watching him cozy up to Penelope Cruz at a party.  Charlotte, while happy, seems frustrated with the toils of parenthood, Miranda appears to be working as many hours as ever and Samantha, true to form, is “[tricking] her body into thinking it’s younger.”

The plot doesn’t really pick up, though, until she suggests a getaway to Abu Dhabi.

The trip seems pretty innocent at first, until Carrie runs into her former fiancé, Aiden (John Corbett).  After meeting by chance at a street market, Carrie says (dreamily, and we don’t blame her) “we bump into each other halfway around the world? It means something.”

While the trailer leaves us wondering what Aiden’s return means for Carrie and Mr. Big, Samantha reassures the audience that things with the girls never change.  “We made a deal ages ago. Man, babies, doesn’t matter. We’re soul mates.”

And thus, the movie is guaranteed to have the same satisfactory ending that the series and first movie did.

Stay tuned for the release of the second trailer. “Sex and the City 2” hits theaters May 28th.
