He may not have a heartbeat, but Carl Robin Geary Sr. still seems to have the pulse of the community in Tracy City, Tennessee – the town has elected him mayor over his living opponent in lopsided fashion.

Geary died of a heart attack on March 10. Campaign signs were displayed at his funeral, and sentiment against the incumbent, Barbara Brock, was so strong that she lost 268-85 to a candidate straight out of “Weekend at Bernie’s.”

“I knew he was deceased. I know that sounds stupid, but we wanted someone other than her,” said Chris Rogers, owner of the town’s Lunch Box restaurant. “If he were to run again next week I’d vote for him again.”

Tracy City’s four aldermen will now select a new mayor who will be less likely to push up daisies.
