Oh no, it’s Friday and he’s talking about his stupid broken knee again

Something a little different this week:

Yes, Media Matters, this is really my knee.

My physical therapist put that blue tape over the entire incision yesterday. It’s supposed to flatten out the scar tissue where it’s still bumpy. There are parts where the scar’s almost invisible, but then there are spots where I think you’ll always be able to tell something bad happened. I’m supposed to leave the tape on for three days.

Still working on my flexion (bending) and extension (straightening). I’ve been doing hamstring stretches to improve the extension, which seems to be working. The only time during the day when it really hurts is when I’m doing my flexion exercises. The rest of the time it’s just a mild ache.

As ever, the main problem throughout the day is not being able to put any weight on my left leg. I’m really tired of having to use crutches, but every day I’m able to walk farther with them without stopping. I can even make it from my apartment to the Metro stop without having to rest. (Still, walking half a mile on one leg is a lot tougher than walking a mile on two.) In a few weeks I might be able to start putting 20% weight on it. I’ll still need the crutches, but at least it’ll bring me that much closer to walking on my own again.

My INR (blood thickness) is within the range where the doctors want it, so I don’t need to get another blood test until the week after next. It’s been at least one blood test a week for the last 10 weeks, so it’ll be nice not to have to deal with it.

As for the legal stuff, I’ll tell you what I can tell you when I can tell you.

Until next week, knee-peeps!
